RESUMO: Este artigo pretende discutir a memória histórica na dramaturgia do norte-americano Tennessee Williams. Na maioria das vezes, sua dramaturgia é vista sob uma perspectiva psicológica, desconsiderando as questões históricas e a contextualização sóciopolítica dos Estados Unidos em seus trabalhos. Em relação a isso, há inúmeras possibilidades de leitura que ultrapassam as análises psicológicas que geralmente são feitas no que diz respeito à construção das personagens, o tema da loucura e da cultura sulista.

ABSTRACT: This essay aims to discuss the historical memory in the writings of the North-American author Tennessee Williams. Mostly this author’s works have been taken under a psychological perspective and aspects like history and socio-political of the US context is not related to his works. Regarding this there are many possibilities in terms of reading that go beyond the psychological analysis that are usually made due to the construction of characters, the madness theme and the southern culture.
