PERSPECTIVAS TEÓRICAS ACERCA DA LEITURA E ANÁLISE DE RELATOS
DE VIAJANTES: HERCULES FLORENCE, NARRADOR

RESUMO: O objetivo deste ensaio é descortinar algumas propriedades características dos relatos de viajantes em geral, atentando para os relatos monçoeiros como os de Hercules Florence, em particular, e sugerir algumas perspectivas para a leitura e análise destes textos. Procura-se entender os relatos de viajantes como textos e, como tais, sujeitos a alguns condicionamentos de produção e circulação, dos quais me interessam três em especial: os condicionamentos de percepção de uma experiência, de resposta às expectativas do poder e, finalmente, o fato de serem passíveis de reutilização para afirmação de identidades nacionais.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this essay is to disclose some characteristic properties of the travelers' stories in general, paying attention to the monçoeiros ' stories like Hercules Florence's writings, in particular, and to suggest some perspectives for the reading and analysis of these texts. I look for to understand the travelers' stories as texts and, as such, subjected to some conditionings of production and circulation, of which interest me three in special: the conditionings of perception of an experience; reply to the expectations of the power; and, finally, the fact that these texts are passives of reutilization for affirmation of national identities.
