RESUMO: Este artigo é parte de pesquisas mais abrangentes envolvendo a cooperação científica de Florentino Ameghino (La Plata / Buenos Aires, Argentina) e Hermann von Ihering (São Paulo, Brasil). Na transição para o século XX, essa geração de naturalistas, na América e na Europa, já incorporara idéias evolucionistas. Eles discutiram entre outros aspectos, as concepções biogeográficas de Wallace, nos quadros mais amplos das teorias globais das seqüências estratigráficas geológicas e paleontológicas do sul da América. Tais quadros levaram à formulação de Hermann von Ihering de sua teoria sobre as pontes continentais.

ABSTRACT: This paper is part of a research programme that deals with the scientific cooperation between Florentino Ameghino (La Plata / Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Hermann von Ihering (São Paulo, Brazil). In the transition to the 20th century, this generation of naturalists in America and Europe had already incorporated evolutionists ideas. They discussed among others aspects, Wallace’s biographical conceptions, in the framework of global theories on the stratigraphy of the South of America that led to the Hermann von Ihering’s formulation about the continental bridges.
