RESUMO: Estuda-se a organização e o cotidiano das Divisões Militares do Rio Doce, uma cidade de Minas Gerais, em busca de exemplos que informem sobre as relações de hierarquia, etnia e estratégia nos meandros de uma sociedade marcada pela violência. Neste ambiente, desta-se a especificidade da atuação e dos discursos do emigrado militar francês Guido Thomaz Marlière, Diretor Geral dos Índios de Minas Gerais entre 1813 e 1829.

ABSTRACT: This article intends to capture the organization and the routine of the Military Divisions of Rio Doce (Minas Gerais/Brazil) to find examples that inform about the relations of hierarchy, ethnic group and strategy in the turns of a society marked by the violence. In this place, we make on relieve the specification of the actuation and speeches of the French military emigrate Guido Thomaz Marlière, that was the General Director of the Indians in Minas Gerais from 1813 to 1829.
