UMA VISÃO INTEGRADA SOBRE A COMPANHIA DAS
VINHAS DO ALTO DOURO

RESUMO: A Companhia Geral da Agricultura e dos Vinhos do Alto Douro, de inspiração pombalina, foi a instituição absolutista fisiocrata mais notável em Portugal no Século XVIII. Os seus antecedentes, a sua acção, as suas consequências e reminiscências são ainda controversos. Com o presente trabalho, vai-se discutir a Companhia Geral à luz das visões críticas de então e observá-las na investigação criada em redor. Conclui-se pela significância eminentemente política e centralista da instituição em detrimento do relevo das intenções fundadoras fisiocratas.

ABSTRACT: The General Company of the Agriculture and Wines from the Alto Douro, inspired from the Pombal’s ministery, was the most notable Portuguese institution of the eighteenth century. Its antecedents/record, its action, its consequences and reminiscences are still controversial. With the present work, it will be discussed the General Company according to the contemporary critic visions and it will be observed through the generated discussion. It will be concluded that the General Company was mainly relevant in the political and centralist spheres and with less importance in the economic regional results.
