MEMÓRIA E CONSTITUIÇÃO DE ESPAÇOS DE
CIDADANIA

RESUMO: Esse artigo tem por objetivo discutir a trajetória de Maria Ileide Texeira, uma migrante
mineira que chegou a Campinas na década 60, do século XX. Sua condição de migrante, negra, com
escolaridade mínima e mulher não a impediram de buscar o seu espaço de inserção política e liderar a
construção de uma “creche”, que na verdade era um barraco coberto por uma lona, para abrigar os filhos
das famílias do assentamento onde morava. O encontro de Ileide com Silvia Leeven, uma mulher de
classe social oposta a sua, resultou em um projeto bem sucedido. Hoje, o Centro Promocional Tia Ileide-
CPTI, uma ONG que recebeu este nome em homenagem a Ileide, conta com uma horta comunitária e
cinco unidades bem estruturadas nas quais são atendidas mais ou menos 720 crianças e adolescentes de
04 a 18 anos de idade.

ABSTRACT: The goal of this article is to discuss the trajectory of Maria Ileide Texeira, a woman that
migrated from the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, to Campinas, State of São Paulo, in the sixties. Her
migrant condition, plus being black, with low scholarity and woman, did not prevent her to fight for
political insertion and, also, to lead the creation and the establishment of a day nursery for poor children.
It started in fact as a tent, covered by a canvas, for the children of the families which compose the
dwelling where she lived in. The meeting between Ileide and Silvia Leeven, a woman of higher social
class, resulted in a well succeeded social project. Today it is called Centro Promocional Tia Ileide- CPTI,
it is a NGO that received its name to homage Mrs. Ileide,. It has a communitarian vegetable-garden, and
five well structured units where about 720 children and adolescents, for the age from 04 to 18, are in
attendance.
