ANTROPOFAGIA: AS VÁRIAS DIMENSÕES
ANTROPOLÓGICAS

RESUMO: Este artigo aborda o conteúdo antropofágico de documentos iconográficos dos séculos XVI e XVII. Propomos compreender a vertente antropofágica existente na representação da gente do Brasil sob a perspectiva da Antropologia Visual. Nesse sentido, relacionamos a visão de mundo a partir da apreensão histórica que envolve o conceito de antropofagismo, assim como o imaginário visual vigente naquele período. De maneira que articulamos a dimensão visual entre os paradigmas eurocêntricos e a contundente produção pictórica do pintor holandês Albert Eckhout a respeito do tema e dos indígenas brasileiros. Ao decodificarmos os índices visuais, a alteridade é discutida e elaborada através dos códigos culturais que perpassam o profícuo universo do exótico e antropofágico Novo Mundo.

ABSTRACT: This article approaches the content anthropophagic in the iconographics documents from 16th and 17th centuries. We consider understanding the anthropophagic points existing in the representation of the people of Brazil under the perspective of the Visual Anthropology. In this direction, we relate the vision of world from historical apprehension that involves the anthropophagistic concept, such as the visual imaginary current in that period. Thus we articulate the visual dimension between the eurocentrics paradigms and the cutting pictorial production of the Dutch painter Albert Eckhout regarding the subject and the Brazilian indians. When decoding the visual signs, the alterity is discussed and elaborated through of the culturals codes that to come inside the wide range of exotic universe and the anthropophagic New World.
