RESUMO: O presente artigo analisa o processo histórico ocorrido no Recôncavo Baiano no final dos oitocentos sob a ótica dessa autora, enfocando também os papéis atribuídos à mulher da elite dentro desse contexto. O entrecruzamento do discurso histórico acerca do final do século XIX com o romance Letícia nos fez perceber que os modelos idealizados para mulheres estavam sofrendo alterações, e que essas objetivavam ao mesmo tempo uma resistência às transformações e uma adequação aos “novos tempos” da Bahia nos fins dos oitocentos.

ABSTRACT: The present article was intended to analyze the historical process happened in the Bay area From Bahia in the end of the eight hundred under that author’s optics, also focusing the papers attributed to the woman of the elite inside of that context. The crossing of the historical speech on the end of the century XIX with to memoirs of Anna Ribeiro and the romance Letícia made us to notice that the models idealized by the were suffering alterations that aimed at the resistance at the same time to the transformations and the adaptation at the “new times” of Bahia in the ends of the eight hundred were.
