SOBRE CATECISMOS DIALOGADOS NA EUROPA E NAS
COLÔNIAS NO SÉCULO XVI

RESUMO: O trabalho traça uma história dos catecismos dialogados na Espanha, em Portugal e no Novo Mundo no século XVI por meio da comparação das formas em que o diálogo de perguntas e respostas se apresenta em autores de catecismo de duas correntes religiosas, os heterodoxos, que seguiam a Erasmo de Rotterdan, e ortodoxos, que refletiam as linhas do Concílio de Trento. Este debate na Europa se refletiu no campo dos catecismos coloniais.

ABSTRACT: This article describes the evolution of the dialogue form of catechism used in Spain, Portugal and the New World during the 16th Century, by means of a comparison of how the dialogue of questions and answers used in such catechisms is presented by authors belonging to the competing religious approaches within the Roman Catholic Church: the heterodox line, associated with followers of Erasmus of Rotterdam, and the orthodox line, associated with the Council of Trent. This debate in Europe also extended to the catechisms used in the colonies.
