GESTA PRINCIPIUM POLONORUM: CULTURA E PODER
NO MUNDO ESLAVO MEDIEVAL

RESUMO: A legitimação por meio da literatura ocorre em diversos períodos históricos. Na Idade Média
a literatura oficial utiliza as crônicas ou gestas como instrumento desse processo. Entre os locais que tal
fenômeno ocorre, a Europa Central, também apresenta sinais dessa ação. O duque Boleslaw III da
Polônia, na primeira metade do século XII, patrocina a produção de uma Gesta, a Gesta principium
Polonorum, obra redigida por um monge entre 1112-1114, logo após um período de crise entre a
monarquia dos Piastes e o Império. O texto latino recria a trajetória dos antecedentes de Boleslaw III,
transformando-os em personagens mais cristãos e latinos, eliminando qualquer desventura que tenham
passado. Tal ação evidencia a necessidade de remodelar a figura régia local, que tentava, com isso,
manter o equilíbrio interno e externo, pois não sendo coroado pelo Papado, a mesma sofria com
problemas de legitimação.

ABSTRACT: The legitimation through by literature happens in several historical periods. In the Middle
Age the official literature uses the chronicles or gestas as instrument of that process. Among the places
that such phenomenon happens, the European Central, also presents signs of that action. The duke
Boleslaw III of Poland in the first half of the century XII sponsors the production of a Gesta, the Gesta
principium Polonorum, work written by a monk among 1112-1114, soon after a crisis period between
the monarchy of Piastes and the Germany Empire. The Latin text recreates the path of the antecedents of
Boleslaw III, transforming them in more Christian and Latin characters, eliminating any misfortune that
they have past. Such action evidence the need to remodel the illustration royal place, that it tried with that
to maintain the internal and external balance, because not being crowned by the Papacy, the same
suffered with legitimation problems.
