RESUMO: A partir de uma abordagem eliasiana, este ensaio pretende demonstrar o quanto que a materialidade textual do Q2(1599) de Romeu e Julieta expressa, como tese moral, que a segurança da ordem pública tradicional emergiria se as autoridades patriarcais das casas Capuleto, Monéquio e do Príncipe Escalo fossem simultaneamente fortalecidas, desde que viessem, combinados a isso, o ethos da cortesia (em nível individual), o ideal de discreto e o reconhecimento geral da justiça pública como um valor central e condição para a paz social.

ABSTRACT: From Norbert Elias’ approach, this essay intends to show how the Q2 textual materiality of Romeo and Juliet expresses, as moral thesis, that the traditional public order security would rise if Capulet’s, Montecchio’s and Prince Scalus’ household patriarchal authorities were simultaneously strengthened. Moreover, another chain of things would be necessary as well: the springing of the ethos of courtesy (on the individual level), the ideal of discretion, and the general recognition of public justice as a central valor and condition of social peace.
