UMA HISTÓRIA DAS MULHERES: REPRESENTAÇÕES
FEMININAS NA OBRA OS SETE PECADOS DA CAPITAL
DE SANDRA PESAVENTO

RESUMO: O presente artigo tem por finalidade ressaltar a importância do livro Os Sete Pecados da Capital, da historiadora Sandra Jatahy Pesavento, para os/as historiadores/as da chamada História das Mulheres. A partir da análise de um conjunto diversificado de fontes, Sandra Pesavento, nos possibilita perceber as representações divulgadas por uma elite masculina acerca de mulheres que viveram na cidade de Porto Alegre, no final do século XIX e início do século XX. Apesar do pensamento misógino presente nos documentos coligidos pela historiadora, é possível perceber a luta das mulheres para sobreviver numa cidade marcada por uma série de transformações em seu espaço urbano e pela transição do trabalho escravo para o trabalho assalariado.

ABSTRACT: This article aims to highlight the importance of the book Os Sete Pecados da Capital, written by the historian Sandra Jatahy Pesavento, to the historians of the called History of Women. From the analysis of a diverse set of sources, Sandra Pesavento, makes possible for us to understand the representations published by masculine elite about women who lived in Porto Alegre, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Despite the misogynist thought present at the documents collected by the historian, it is possible to see women's struggle to survive in a city marked by a series of transformations in its urban space and the transition from the slave labor to the wage labor.
