RESUMO: Este artigo discute o texto “Morrer de amor: Neco, Chiquinha e a Estrhycnina” que faz parte do livro “Os Sete Pecados da Capital” de Sandra Pesavento. A historiadora constrói dois objetos, “morrer de amor”, e o poder da representação no final do século XIX. Ela trabalha com as cartas dos suicidas, o jornalismo de folhetim e a literatura, através de metodologia da história cultural: “história dentro da história”.

ABSTRACT: This article deals with the text "To die of love: Neco and Chiquinha and estrycnina" in the book "The seven sins of the capital" of Sandra Jatahy Pesavento. The historian builds two objects, "fall in love" and the power of representation in the late nineteenth century. She looks at the suicide’s letters, journalism and literature of a serial through the methodology of cultural history: "history within the history."
