CULTURA DO RENASCIMENTO NA ITÁLIA

RESUMO: O historiador suíço Jacob Burckhardt (1818-1897) é comumente referido como autor do
clássico livro, publicado em 1860, A Cultura do Renascimento na Itália. Por meio dessa obra, Burckhardt
apresentava uma síntese histórica do período, traduzida na memorável fórmula da “descoberta do homem
e do mundo”. O presente trabalho segue o processo de elaboração da obra pelo autor, desde sua primeira
viagem a Roma, em 1846, até a composição final do manuscrito.

ABSTRACT: The Swiss historian Jacob Burckhardt (1818-1897) is commonly referred as the author of
the 1860 classic The Culture of Renaissance in Italy. In this research, Burckhardt presented a historical
synthesis of the period, translated in the memorable formula the “discovered of the man and the world”.
The present article intends to follow the work as it was done by the author since his first trip to Rome, in
1846, until the final manuscript composition.
