OS COMBATES INTELECTUAIS DE BOSSUET: A UNIDADE
POLÍTICA POR MEIO DA UNIDADE RELIGIOSA

RESUMO: objetivamos demonstrar que, para Bossuet, em sua Oraison funèbre de Henriette-Marie de France, os reis, ao defenderem a religião estariam, ao mesmo tempo, defendendo o Estado. O seu combate ao protestantismo devia-se ao fato de entender que esta doutrina ameaçava fortemente a monarquia absolutista. Ele luta para empreender a unidade religiosa na França, por conceber que este era um meio imprescindível para se obter a unidade política. A figura simbólica do rei como defensor da fé e da Igreja, tão defendida por Bossuet, era uma das imagens que os reis cristãos tinham de apresentar para reforçar o seu poder, na França, na segunda metade do século XVII.

ABSTRACT: we aim to demonstrate that, for Bossuet, in his/her Oraison funèbre of Henriette-Marie of France, the kings´defense of religion means also the State´s apology. His/her combat against Protestantism was justified as a defense against a doctrine that threatened the absolute monarchy. He struggles to undertake the religious unity in France, since for him this was a premisse for achieving the political unity The king's symbolic illustration as defender of the faith and of the Church, so defended by Bossuet, it was one of the images that the Christian kings had to present to reinforce his/her power, in France, in the second half of the century XVII.
