ETNOGÊNESE MBAYÁ-GUAYKURU: NOTAS SOBRE EMERGÊNCIA
IDENTITÁRIA, EXPANSÃO TERRITORIAL E RESISTÊNCIA DE UM GRUPO
ÉTNICO NO VALE DO RIO PARAGUAI (c. 1650-1800)

RESUMO: A população indígena do grupo Mbayá-Guaykuru teve atuação decisiva no âmbito das disputas territoriais pelo controle do vale do rio Paraguai, no período colonial. O presente trabalho analisa o processo de emergência sociopolítica do referido grupo, atentando para as relações interculturais que experimentaram com outros povos chaquenhos e com os adventícios, espanhóis e portugueses. Em especial, procuro entender como os Mbayá-Guaykuru, diante das ofensivas coloniais do século XVIII, resistiram lutando para defenderem as conquistas que obtiveram durante o processo mesmo de colonização.

ABSTRACT: The native peoples of the Mbayá-Guaycuruan group had decisive performance in the context of the territorial disputes for the control of the valley of the Río Paraguay, in the colonial period. The present paper analyzes the process of sociopolitical emergency of the mentioned group, looking at the intercultural relationships that they experienced with other Chaco peoples and with the Spanish and Portuguese foreigners. Especially, I try to understand how Mbayá-Guaycuruans, during the colonial offensives of the 18th century, resisted struggling to defend the conquests that they obtained during the same process of colonization.
