Orientalism in the serial culture of the Rajneesh case

The article presents a reading of the series Wild Wild Country (2018), which deals with the case of the Rajneeshpuram community, led by guru Rajneesh between 1981-1986, involving crimes such as tax fraud and attempted murder. Using Iwamura's (2011) concept of "virtual monk", which is inspired by the work of Edward Said, the work addresses the presence of traces of oriental representations, privileging the American mass culture of the 20th century and showing the need for a more refined magnifying glass to study creation, circulation.
