History, Literature and the Real

Abstract

This work addresses the relationship between History and Literature and how they relate to or even interfere in our social reality. Using a heuristic, it covers divergent and convergent points, in order to demonstrate that they are more harmonious than dissonant. As a result of broader transformations in all areas of knowledge, interdisciplinarity gained importance as the notion of truth itself changed throughout the 20th century. When History resumed its dialogue lost in the 19th century with other areas of knowledge, such as Art and Literature, it turned to different questions and began to understand truths different from conventional forms. In this dialogue there is a glimpse into the exploration of new discoveries and concerns in historical knowledge. In a more versatile scenario, the ambition for the universal gave more space to the relative and the provisional. Historical and fictional narratives have many points in common in their argumentative structure, as well as in the search for plausible explanations of human beings in society. In this sense, if it is possible to find fiction in history and truths in fiction, it is because we can learn something from them. Both narratives are responsible for giving meaning to life, as they are the result of the social world, as well as builders of it.
