Abstract

“Don’t Look Up” is a science fiction film that seeks to denounce climate change denialism and skepticism as two of the main obstacles to taking action concerning the climate crisis. However, in our view, the film’s approach ends up reinforcing some of the aspects that it wishes to critique and denounce. Thus, through Lawrence Grossberg’s studies about the affective landscape of passive nihilism, we will analyze how “Don’t Look Up” ends up reproducing and reinforcing the same structures of feeling that it aims to oppose.
