Abstract

In a first attempt to integrate his influences from Pop Art and the New York underground scene into the English context through glam rock, David Bowie, on the album Hunky Dory (1971), lays the foundations for the development of his career in the first half of the decade 1970. By highlighting the elements present in this interaction between the inherited aesthetic material and its recreation in Bowie's music, we seek to identify the presence of studio production techniques and processes that reinforce characteristics that can be interpreted as anti-utopian in comparison to projects by other artists from the same period. Thus, we briefly analyze the track “The Murder Mystery” (1969), highlighting the development of an aesthetic that reflects a “structure of feeling” associated with Andy Warhol’s Factory, and identify the continuity of this sensitivity after Warhol’s departure from the project. Velvet Underground (1969). This sensitivity transcends New York's underground scene, as evidenced in our analysis of “Queen Bitch”, a track from Bowie's fourth studio album.
